Job Description

As an Implementation Technician – Jetter, you will utilize your technical skills working behind the scenes to keep our customers connected! This will primarily involve fiber jetting and conduit installations for trunk, distribution and service fiber cables.

 

Position Details 

  • Permanent, full-time opportunity 
  • Hours of work Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, weekday evenings and weekends may be required
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours, as required, including early mornings and as part of an on-call rotation schedule
  • Ability to work at heights may be a requirement for this position

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Fiber jetting for trunk, distribution and drop cables
  • Hand digging of service fiber cables to complete installations
  • Fiber drop splicing to support installation volumes when required
  • Exterior site surveys to identify stubbing locations prior to main line construction
  • Help define timelines for the migrations, expansions, upgrades for the entire Fibre Network. Make intelligent contributions to create the “Plan.” 
  • Frequent travel across our coverage area and perform on-site visits
  • Assist with planning and implementation of all outside plant materials, such as new remotes, and upgrades of existing infrastructures, which would include initial planning, permits, equipment purchases, material purchases, inventory for materials, Fiber assignments, equipment racks, cable management, etc. both in the field and in the Central Offices
  • Interaction with Operations, outside contractors, and peers will be required to maintain a current knowledge of the progress and day to day activities
  • Assist the MDU team with inside cabling when required
  • Work with scheduling to allocate time for the Customer Service Installation Technicians to complete migrations, expansions and upgrades
  • Keep up in changes to industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology
  • Implement or perform preventive maintenance on all tools and equipment 
  • Adhere to company health and safety program in all related duties

    Education and Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner with a strong focus in customer service
  • Ability to work at heights, as it is a requirement of the job
  • Consistently lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Proven ability to identify potential problems and challenging situations
  • Clearly identify cable colours, running and mounting of hardware/cabling
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products as required
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunication services, with a primary focus on Fibre Services, as well as related testing equipment
