Success Story: Age is Only a Number

Posted November 24, 2023 in Articles and Resources

When Beth came to Community Employment Services (CES), she was finishing a seasonal position as prep cook at a local golf course. Beth needed a full time, stable position and she knew she had the skills and experience to make this happen but felt her age would be a barrier. The team at CES helped Beth recognize the many benefits and positive aspects of being a mature worker. Beth could be a leader in any workplace, with her valuable experience she was positioned to train others.

With the support of the CES team, her new resume reflected exactly that! Her background as a cook would be ideal for a dietary staff position in a retirement home, an industry that Beth had not considered before. The CES team was able to connect her to several local employers. She secured an interview and was offered a position at a retirement home.

Through the support of the CES team, career counselling, workshops, guidance, and employer relationships, Beth was able to realize her abilities, regardless of age.
