Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to be part of the maintenance team supporting hospital facilities. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you provide on-site technical support so that contractual commitments are met, which includes maintenance and repair of the facility assets.
Responsibilities:
- Avoidance of abatement events
- Maintenance and repair of facility assets / systems
- Retention of maintenance and repair documentation
- Responds to demand work orders as generated by work order system to ensure that business is not interrupted. Ensures washroom fixtures are functioning and responds to floods/blockages. Maintains plumbing and fluid/process flow equipment by repairing or replacing plumbing fixtures, sinks and taps. Adjusts and repairs water force flow valves on washroom equipment ensuring efficient water consumption. Cleans and maintains sewers by chemical treatment, flushing and snaking. This includes within the building and the exterior buried services for the buildings. Checks and repairs mechanical devices such as pumps, motors, air handling units, generator, chillers, boilers, hydronic systems, parking equipment, plumbing systems, etc.
- Minor welding repairs
- Water treatment testing
- Repairs/installs locks, door closer and all related hardware associated with doors/windows.
- Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance duties throughout the complex and cleans and services equipment as necessary.
- Completes assigned work orders and preventative maintenance and records results in work order system and closes completed work orders.
- Installs new systems and equipment as required as funds are available including planning the job, acquiring materials and commissioning of final product.
- Carries out preventative maintenance according to P.M. schedules.
- Cleans and maintains all tools, equipment and assigned shop space.
- Responds to emergency situations such as fire alarms and drills, On Call issues and building closure due to weather or building contingencies. Incumbent responsible to fulfill on call schedule as determined by the manager.
- Monitors, operates, and takes corrective actions on the Building Automation System including checking the system regularly for irregularities, alarms and system function ensuring normal operations and customer comfort.
- Responding to demand calls and scheduled PM’s with the use of the CMMS data base which includes the use of iPad.
- Assist other (licensed) trades with any work not requiring specific license as required.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and ensures tools and work areas are maintained to standard.
- Maintains confidentiality and release of information in accordance with hospital policy at all times.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Facility Manger or Supervisor.
- Required to work rotating shift including weekends and evenings
Education
Experience Required
YOU MUST HAVE
- College diploma or Recognized Trade Certificate
- 1+ years’ experience working directly with customers in a service environment
- Immunization (including COVID-19 vaccination) as required by the customer and in accordance with the Public Health Act
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a recent police check at their expense.
WE VALUE
- Building Environmental Operator Certification and/or a Stationary Engineer Certification
- Experience in facility services
- Basic knowledge and understanding of computer software and technology
- Ability to read and understand facility blueprints
- Experience with large building HVAC central systems, chillers and boilers
- Experience with large pumps and hydronic systems
- Experience working within a healthcare industry
- Attention to detail and accuracy are essential when interpreting blueprints/drawings
- Effective communication including customer follow up.
