As our Senior CNC Programmer, you will work closely with the Senior Technical Manager, experience challenges and rewards and have an opportunity to shape and influence our environment. 

 

Under the guidance of our Senior Technical Manager, our Senior CNC Programmer is responsible to improve manufacturing through development of CNC programs, process optimization and provide technical advice regarding machining and improving efficiencies.  The ideal candidate will be versed in various blueprint specifications, measuring devices and having a strong focus on following protocol with attention to detail.  Working closely with the quality team you will ensure target and deadlines are met complying with OH&S legislation as well as policies. As a result, your work has a direct impact towards fulfilling business goals.

Experience Required

We are seeking a person with the following skill set and competencies:

  • Grade 12 (OSSD) or equivalent education required.
  • Related trades certifications, courses or diploma from a recognized post-secondary school is a significant asset:
    • Certificate of Qualification for General Machinist or Tool and Die Maker
  • Minimum 10 years programming related experience in a custom machining environment in the manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
  • Lean Manufacturing and SMED process knowledge required.
  • Proficient computer skills and competency in MS office, Mastercam, Solidwork.
  • Knowledge of machining methods for medium to complex components.
  • Awareness of 3-5 axis programming with mill-turn experience.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
  • Comprehension of work holding equipment and some knowledge of machine posts.
  • Understanding of safe work procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it applies to the company.
  • Must provide a clean criminal record check upon hire.

Your skills and competencies will help you:

  • Interpret blueprints and program parts using MasterCam Software for various CNC machines, such as Vertical/Horizontal machining centers, 5 axis milling machines, multi-spindle lathes and wire EDM.
  • Maintain general awareness of machining production activities and provide technical support regarding machining where requested. 
  • Take a hands-on role with programming as well create and update CNC programs and set up sheets. 
  • Liaison between CNC Operators / Machinists, ensuring production personnel have everything required for manufacturing of jobs such as CNC codes, check sheets, etc.
  • Analyze manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancement of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
  • Support all phases of the manufacturing process including product quality, cost improvements and product manufacturability.
  • Make recommendations on, participate in, and facilitate implementing CNC programming improvements.
  • Work closely with machine operators to provide drawing support / clarifications and amendments; assist with document requests, including printing additional drawings as needed.
  • Responsible for training and mentoring junior employees.
  • Creating, organizing and maintaining accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop order and concepts in accordance with quality functions.
  • Responsible for investigating and implementing solutions for NCRs and PPNs related to programming.
  • Participate and/or lead part of meetings as well as coordinate new part activities within affected departments as requested.
