Job Description
Basic Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Mill Supervisor the Lumber Piler is responsible for piling all lumber and cants according to species, grade, and dimension in a timely, efficient and proper manner. The manual sorting, piling and off-loading of wood products is a very physically demanding role. If you enjoy a physical role and don’t mind working in all types of environmental conditions this role will be a good fit for you.
Specific Duties:
• All Lumber Piler’s are expected to work as a team and ensure that production does not back-up and stop the flow of lumber from being processed through the mill.
• During a species change-over, all lifts shall be pushed out and all carts shall be re-arranged for the next run in a timely and efficient manner. Please consult with grader during a change over.
• Keep broken sticks, scrap wood and boards off the ground where you are piling.
• During downtime:
o Clean and sweep work area
o Pile offcuts away from trimmer saws
o Replenish empty banding reels
o Clean back of table and lifts
Other housekeeping duties as assigned
Work Setting: Sawmill / Lumber Yard.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding role, manual dexterity, Handling heavy loads, repetitive tasks, standing for extended period of time.
Weight Handling: Up to 45kg (100 lbs).
Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
Experience: No experience is required we are willing to train.
