Sierra’s heavy civil division has the equipment, trained operators and expertise to complete a wide array of projects including subdivision servicing, building services and sitework packages, municipal water systems, wastewater treatment plans, sewer and watermain, roads, golf courses, retention ponds, erosion control, earthmoving and demolition. Due to an influx of projects, our Bridge division is currently seeking to add an experienced Foreman to their team. Reporting to the General Superintendent, this position is accountable for overseeing all aspects of the bridge construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance including quality, safety, planning, and production. Ensures that the crews work efficiently to job specifications and drawings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides site specific orientation and verifies that workers have the required training for the assigned tasks (i.e. working at heights).
- Conducts and documents site inspections, job hazard assessment (JAR), toolbox talks and/or tailgate meetings as necessary.
- Assists in developing look ahead and project schedules.
- Fully understands and complies with owner’s specifications, construction and engineered shop drawings, provincial and municipal standards and all other applicable laws, rules and regulations applicable to the project (i.e. MOE, DFO, MNR…)
- Conduct takeoffs for materials requirements for different tasks and scope.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers when necessary.
- Communicates concerns, conflicts and questions with team members prior to execution of tasks.
- Find errors and discrepancies that may arise from the contract documents before commencement of the works.
- Ensures high standards of workmanship and efficiency
- Strong problem-solving skills and conflict resolution
- Promotes a safe work site and ensures adherence to Sierra’s policies.
- Reports timely and accurate production information and hours.
- Aid in determining and implementing construction methodology, manpower requirements, material needs, equipment, work schedule, and documentation of hours worked.
- Responsible for efficient use of labour, equipment, and materials.
- Creative and innovative.
- Competent in decision-making and judgment calls.
- Time management skills – Great planner and organized.
- Understanding of contractual responsibilities and scope of work
- Mentors, coaches, and trains field personnel recognizes talent, and helps develop co-workers to grow and succeed.
- Understand Sierra’s Quality Control Plan and aid in its implementation.
- Enforces safety and work regulation policies, and initiates disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Reads, understands and adheres to contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensures all work is conducted and completed in compliance with contractual documents and applicable standards.
Skills, Experience and Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a safety conscience Site Supervisor or Foreman
- Minimum of 10 years construction experience, specifically in bridges
- Journeyman or Interprovincial trade certificate an asset
- Must have a valid G license
- Meticulous planning and organization skills for daily note taking of tasks, activities, production and workforce
- Must have stellar communication skills, the ability to problem solve, and capability to adapt to all situations
