Seed Plant Operator Job Description

Sevita International is seeking an experienced seed plant operator to oversee the daily operational activities of our Woodstock soybean seed processing and treatment facility. This individual will work jointly with the Operations and Infrastructure Manager and the Production and Quality Manager who oversees and has responsibility for Quality at all locations. The ideal candidate will be a Team Builder with experience in the soybean seed processing and treatment facility . This person will have strong people skills, knowledgeable about product flow and finding efficiencies.

Specifically, this individual will be responsible for:

· Supervise the day-to-day operations of the seed plant.

This position will report to the Operations and Infrastructure Manager of Sevita International and will be based out of the Sevita Plant Office at 595570 County Road 59 N, Woodstock, ON.

 

Objectives & Responsibilities of this role

Be responsible for the operational activities of the seed plant.

Meeting daily, weekly and monthly targets for cleaning and shipping for seed.

Lead, motivate and support the seed operations team.

Support and be an example for the Health & Safety efforts of Sevita.

Ensure that Operational activities remain on time and within budget.

Oversee and maintain constant communication with the plant staff to ensure proper operations of the seed plant.

Ensure that Sevita’s SOPs, HACCP, and customer specific requirements/instructions are being followed.

Ensure that Sevita’s Quality Assurance Program is being followed.

Prioritize the Maintenance activities and give direction to the appropriate staff.

Track staffing requirements and assist in the hiring of new plant staff when necessary.

Create and maintain a schedule for staff and operating hours during critical busy periods (spring planting and fall harvest).

Oversee materials and inventory tracking and quality monitoring.

Support and coordinate with the seed and export sales teams when there is an opportunity to host growers and customers on site for promotional and business development purposes.

Ensure all team members receive appropriate training to carry out their responsibilities safely and effectively

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience with the supervision of staff.

Experience with handling and storing grain.

Experience with seed processing and safe application of seed treatments.

Knowledge of seed types, quality, and meeting customer requirements.

Experience with shipping and receiving.

Physically fit to climb heights and work at heights.

Ability to lift 50lbs.

Ability to drive and operate straightforward plant equipment and machinery, such as tractor/loader, forklifts, and/or trucks.

Experience with reports and completing paperwork.

Experience with HACCP, and quality management systems.

Organized and able to manage workflow.

A good understanding of mechanical systems and required maintenance.

A sound basic understanding of electrical components and systems controls.

Ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control.

Good people skills and the ability to motivate people.

Good problem-solving skills.

Experience with planning/budgeting.

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

Agricultural background.

Working knowledge of Process control software.

Strong IT skills.

Experience managing people and processes.
