Job Description

The  Employment Counsellor conducts assessments; provides support and counselling; and develops and implements action plans that will best meet the participants’ needs and achieve a successful outcome in the most efficient manner.

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

Experience:
  

  •   Employment case management an assessment
  •   Working in an employment counselling environment
  •   Working collaboratively with community partners and training providers


  Required Skills:
 

  •   Able to work with diverse group of participants and establish rapport quickly
  •   Excellent interpersonal skills that can nurture and support long term engagement
  •  Ability to multitask effectively and prioritize appropriate strategies
  •   Creative problem solver with a proactive approach to decision making
  •   Advocate for vulnerable populations, ensuring their needs are met and voices are heard
  •   Maintaining relationships with referral organizations for integrated and effective case management 
  •   Effective communication, comprehension, and active listening skills
  •   Interviewing skills, adjusting communication style dependent on participant personality and learning style
  •   Solution focused counselling skills
  •   Able to discuss barriers and employment maintenance issues with clients
  •   Conflict resolution skills
  •   Ability to motivate and empower others through counselling and positive feedback
  •   Intermediate user of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  •   Ability to coach and facilitate change
  •   French language is an asset

 

Knowledge:

  •   Current job search techniques and theories of career counselling
  •   Common Assessment Model
  •   Knowledge of careers and occupations, various job requirements, job search skills, career planning.
  •   Knowledge of community and government resources available to clients
  •   Knowledge of local and provincial labour markets
  •   Ethical decision-making

Education:

Completed post-secondary education from a recognized Canadian Institute or its equivalent or two years related experience in Human Services Field. Appropriate certifications, certificates, and/or training relevant to the counselling field. International Coach Federation/Career Coach certification an asset.
