Job Description
As an Employment Specialist, you will be responsible for:
delivering a range of support services including needs determination, career decision-making, employment preparation, job procurement, providing on-site training, job coaching, providing flexible support, long-term follow-up and workplace accommodation.
The right person will have the following characteristics:
- You have the skills to assist people with barriers to employment to seek and maintain employment through a process of skill development, decision-making and job search.
- You are a team player.
- You are open-minded, accepting of others’ differences.
- You are creative in ways of introducing a variety of techniques to on-site job training and community experiences.
- You can work professionally, interact well with others and are tolerant of others who may be intolerant of you.
- You have excellent listening skills.
- You have excellent communication and accurate writing skills.
- You have proven ability through experience in job development and on the job coaching.
- You have working knowledge of various legislation, ie. Employment standards Act, Supported Employment Guidelines, etc.
- You can provide job readiness training, assessments, work ethic training, on-site job training etc.
- You use counselling techniques to promote a positive, pro-active work environment, which seeks to build self –esteem and confidence, etc.
- You have a post-secondary degree/diploma in a social service field or employment/business field.
- You have further education and training related to employment.
- You have current First Aid, CPR and NVCI
- You have a valid Ontario driver’s licence and a reliable car to use for work.
Education
Experience Required
What you bring:
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Human Services with relevant certificates and training.
- Experience related to group facilitation, training and development, employment counselling, marketing, labour market conditions, public relations, employment placement and job development.
- Knowledge and analysis of the labour market and trends as it relates to employment placement and job development.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel, knowledge CaMs a benefit.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills.
