The Oxford County Community Health Centre (OCCHC) exists to address the needs of community members who face a range of barriers in everyday life. Our Housing Stability Team is growing!

We are seeking:

TRANSITIONAL HOUSINGWORKER – Ingersoll

The Transitional Housing Worker (THW) supports individuals experiencing homelessness in Oxford County, specifically Ingersoll and area, through our Transitional Housing program. The NEW transitional living residence – known as the Ingersoll Light House – is an inviting 6 bedroom home proudly owned by the United Way Oxford, with expectations that the OCCHC delivers the highest quality transitional living program in line with best practices.

Overview – the successful candidate will:

  • Receive referrals / meet with prospective Transitional Housing clients to complete intake procedures – assess & triage client needs, & determine eligibility for transitional living
  • Assist Light House clients to develop basic life skills through coaching & goal planning; building motivation & confidence to achieve goals & stability; instilling a sense of emotional & social belonging; developing creative group programs; & establishing trusting relationships
  • Uphold daily operations e.g. guest guidelines, health & safety, room checks, individual client support to attend appointments, house seeking, maintenance, conflict mediation, discharges & move-in’s, & household basic supplies
  • Build strong & productive relationships with community partners& landlords
  • Navigate community resources, & transition clients toward permanent housing

Compensation: Permanent full-time employment. Competitive compensation and in-lieu of benefits, with additional paid vacation and personal days.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours weekly – Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm/Tuesday, Thursday 10-6 or 11-7.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in social services or related field 
  • A current Member (or eligible for membership) to a regulatory college, such as the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Considerable experience addressing the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness, or those at risk of homelessness
  • Understanding of community agencies and a wide cross-section of service providers – preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of Ingersoll & Area communities.
