Job Overview
As an Estimator & Project Coordinator at Sierra Bridge, you will be responsible for both estimating and project coordination functions, ensuring projects are accurately estimated, well-organized, and executed on time and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of construction estimating, project scheduling, contract management, and site coordination. This position will consist of 70% Project Coordination and 30% Estimating.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Examine construction drawings to extract required information and produce accurate estimates.
- Perform bid estimations, tender preparation, and cost control.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and prepare tender submissions.
- Identify areas of risk and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Prepare and review tender documents, including contract estimation and insurance paperwork.
- Develop and maintain estimating systems and databases.
- Utilize estimating software (e.g., Bid2Win) to format cost breakdowns.
- Attend estimating meetings and participate in tender closings.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all site activities, including subcontractors, materials, equipment, and safety.
- Assist in project scheduling, budgeting, and cost accounting.
- Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate manpower requirements and manage self-performing workforces when necessary.
- Prepare and track project deliverables, including RFIs, RFCs, and NCRs.
- Monitor job progress, cost control, and prepare progress reports.
- Identify and manage change orders, client approvals, and invoicing.
- Facilitate site meetings and maintain professional communication with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Participate in project closeout, including documentation, deficiencies, and warranty work.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties that may be superficially or generally assigned.
Education
Experience Required
Qualifications & Skills:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, project coordination, or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of heavy civil and bridge construction, including site management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project, and estimating software.
- Familiarity with construction law, contracts, and Ontario Health & Safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
- Certifications such as CET, PMP, or First Aid are considered assets.
