Job Description
The Manager of HR, Health & Safety leads a team of human resources and health & safety professionals, ensuring the effective operation of HR and Health & Safety (H&S) functions at IMT Precision. This role is responsible for delivering a full spectrum of HR services, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, compensation, benefits, pension administration, employee and labor relations, organizational effectiveness, and DEI initiatives. Additionally, the role oversees Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with legislation, risk assessments, claims management, and workplace safety programs. With a hands-on leadership approach, the incumbent executes HR and H&S strategic plans, drives key initiatives, and ensures policies and programs align with business objectives, fostering a high-performance and engaged work environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of HR to manage strategic HR initiatives and departmental budgets.
- Develop, implement, and oversee HR policies, programs, and initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance to management on labor relations and collective agreement interpretation.
- Lead grievance resolution and participate in collective bargaining processes.
- Advise managers on performance management, training, development, and succession planning.
- Oversee compensation, benefits, and pension administration.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and salary forecasting.
- Support organizational design, job evaluations, and recruitment strategies.
- Manage disability and workers’ compensation claims.
- Drive initiatives in diversity, equity, inclusion, and organizational culture.
- Implement and maintain a robust health and safety management system.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Canada Labour Code and Controlled Goods Standards.
- Monitor health, safety, and wellness initiatives, providing reports for internal and regulatory purposes.
- Oversee emergency preparedness programs and employee protection measures.
- Support and guide the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and management teams on compliance matters.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Manage workplace injury claims, accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
- Serve as the employer’s designated recipient for workplace harassment and violence occurrences, facilitating resolution processes.
- Represent the company in regulatory inspections and investigations.
Education
Experience Required
- 10+ years of progressive experience in HR, health & safety, and labor relations, with at least 4 years in a management role.
- Proven leadership in unionized manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and collective agreements.
- Experience in coaching, mediation, negotiation, and team leadership.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to deal with sensitive, persona, and confidential information with tact, sensitivity and diplomacy while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Excellent project management and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation sills.
- Demonstrated skills in mediation, negotiation, coaching and facilitation.
