Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Developmental Services Professionals in the Woodstock area with strong work ethic, who seek a meaningful career choice, and who will embrace our mission and values as they provide person-directed supports to a young man with a physical and a mild intellectual disability, in his home, in the Woodstock community and at college in London.

This position offers competitive wages and benefits for regular part-time employees, as well as opportunities for career advancement. The shifts are 8 to 9 hour shifts that are primarily day shifts, Monday to Friday, and Saturday.

Summary of Responsibilities:

In general, support the desire of individuals to live a good, rich and varied life as full citizens. Seek and facilitate opportunities within the community to help build and nurture relationships with family, friends, neighbours and community members. Seek and facilitate employment, lifelong learning, leisure and/or volunteer opportunities, as articulated in Person-Centered Plans.

Specifically, provide support to a young adult based on his personal strengths and needs. Some tasks could include, but are not limited to, assisting with:

  • Daily living skills (light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, day-to-day problem-solving, money management, etc...)
  • Personal care
  • Transferring, navigating from sitting to standing, support with a walker wheelchair
  • Health-related needs, including physiotherapy, medication administration, attending appointments
  • Community participation (leisure, volunteer and/or employment)
  • Support to attend College full-time

Enhance an individual’s self-determination through:

  • Provision of full information/options available;
  • Support follow-through on personal decisions;
  • Provision of information about exercising rights and corresponding responsibilities; and
  • Encouraging people to explore, define and choose what makes a ‘good life’ for them.

Qualifications

  • Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent and/or personal and/or work-related experience in the area of human/social services; post-secondary education is preferred
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check specific to the Alice Saddy Association, First Aid/CPR and CPI certification or willingness to obtain
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated for Covid-19 (to be provided upon hire)

All staff must show proof of being fully vaccinated upon hire. PPE (including masking requirements) and antigen testing three times weekly for all staff is also mandatory in this sector.
