Volunteer Position Summary
This position is part of the Tamarack Community Building Youth Futures initiative (CBYF), funded through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. This initiative will explore needs and gaps for youth in Oxford County and work collaboratively with the community to build a Youth Collective Impact Strategy to improve youth outcomes and high-school graduation rates in our community.
We are seeking 12-15 diverse youth (aged 15-29) from Oxford County to be volunteers on the Youth Council guiding the CBYF initiative. These individuals will guide the development and implementation of an ongoing effort to provide a comprehensive collaborative community response initiative in identifying, understanding and addressing gaps for youth in Oxford County. The initiative will focus on several areas, including education, employment, mental health and wellbeing, transitioning from youth to adult services, housing, substance use, and other relevant areas. The volunteers will be the key figures guiding the direction of this initiative.
Hours may include evenings/weekends.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Guides and makes decisions surrounding the development and implementation of community-based efforts for the CBYF initiative to close identified gaps for youth in Oxford County
- Works collaboratively with partners and stakeholders of the Tamarack CBYF initiative
- Attends Youth Council meetings
- Encourages and facilitates partner participation in the initiative
- Identifies and engages with youth in the community to build awareness and connections to this initiative and encourage youth participation
- Completes learning related to youth engagement, collective impact, and other topics relevant to the CBYF initiative
- Performs other duties as required
General
- Only those who fit the criteria of being a youth (15-29 years old) and live in Oxford County will be considered
- This is a volunteer position that will last until December 2023, however successful applicants will receive an honoraria for every meeting attended (volunteer hours can also be signed for this)
- This position is open to all persons
- This position reports to the Project Coordinator
