Job Description

Position: Diesel Service Technician                            Reporting To: Store Manager

Location: Store                                                           Department: Mechanical 

POSITION OBJECTIVES

Service Component:

Provide excellence in customer service through the efficient mechanical repairs for commercial vehicles.

Through “continuous improvement” initiatives, improve our retail service processes so we maintain/grow our focus on customer service. Work together with all service Associates and other members of the team to ensure we are focused on improving service levels and are focused on providing the best possible tire & automotive service in Southwestern Ontario.

Support the achievement of annual sales, margin, expense and profit objectives for the store.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health & Safety

Foster a work environment where H&S is the team’s number one priority – without exception! Protect his/her own health and safety by working in compliance with Section 28 of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and with the safe operating policies and procedures established by the company which make up or written occupational health and safety program.

Consider health and Safety in every activity and fulfill the legal duty to report a contravention of the OHSA or the regulations, any workplace hazard or any defect in any equipment or protective device to the immediate supervisor or the employer.

Participate in and complete any required training programs.

Diesel Service Technician

Interact with Service Advisors to obtain work orders and customer service specific requirements.

Inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate fault.

Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of diesel systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment.

Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specification.

Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups. Advise customers and/or Service Advisor on work performed, general vehicle condition and future repair requirements.

Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions.

Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor or determine whether to repair or replace unit.

Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools.

Test and adjust units to specifications to proper performance. Complete reports to record problems and work performed.

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS

Hard Skills/Education Required

Diesel Service Technician Apprenticeship Certificate in accordance to the Ministry of Colleges, Training and Universities

Able to perform Advanced PLT Consistently able to work independently Intermediate drivability diagnostics

Valid Driver’s License with a clean abstract Understanding of punch clock protocol

Maintain a professional and clean appearance at all times.
