Job Description

If you are an individual who has a love for animals, previous dog walking experience, a strong grasp of communicating with others, and the ability to walk dogs of various sizes and breeds, then a position at Pets N People may be an excellent experience for you. 

 

JOB PURPOSE 

The Dog Walker of Pets N People is responsible for walking dogs according to time specified by owners and management, providing the highest level of customer service to both animal and owner, complying with clients’ requests, and ensuring all dogs are treated with love and care. This role offers opportunities to be around animals, be physically active, and incorporate a variety of your transferable skills.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Walking multiple dogs in various weather conditions over the course of a day 
  • Conducting consultations with new clients; introductions to the owner and pet, gathering information and getting familiar with each other 
  • Regularly recording information specifying which dogs were walked, the duration of the walk, and if there were any notable observations
  • Safely transporting dogs to and from their homes
  • Picking up and disposing of pet waste
  • Following the schedule set by management on suitable times to walk each dog
  • Taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the dogs and those around them are safe 
  • Performing other position-related duties as required

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

  • Pet First Aid Certification or participation in a Basic Obedience or Puppy Class not required, but considered an asset
  • Proven experience working with dogs of all sizes, dog behaviour and a compassion for animals an asset
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable access to a vehicle on a daily basis
  • Clear police check and the ability to pass a background check
  • Working smartphone with access to data 
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, problem-solve and make decisions on the fly
  • Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with co-workers and customers, both written and verbal
  • Punctual, reliable, and trustworthy

 

LOCATION AND WORKING CONDITIONS

 

 

  • Required to travel using their own vehicle to complete responsibilities such as traveling to customers’ homes to then walk their dog 
  • Flexible and adaptable to ever-changing schedules of clients and pets  
  • Working in variable weather conditions (all seasons, all types of weather)
  • Available to walk dogs during peak walking times (9 am – 3pm),( 7am – 1pm as needed)) or( 3pm -11pm as needed) and long periods of time
  • Part-time hours (< 24 hours/week) Monday through Friday and two weekend days/month (i.e., two Saturdays or 2 Sundays)

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

 

 

  • Minimum wage to start (currently $16.55/hour) 
  • Mileage to cover traveling to customers’ homes
