PART TIME MUSUEM ATTENDANT

Reporting to: Manager of Culture and Museum Curator
Department: Museum
Classification: Part Time; Unionized
Salary Range: As per Grade 3: $17.19-$17.72 per hour
Starting Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for front desk visitor services with a particular focus on being the on-site staff member for rentals and weekends:
    • Facilitates public access to the building and provides security.
    • Conducts opening and closing procedures for the building.
    • Monitors the public while in the building.
    • Conducts retail sales from the gift shop and facilitates class registrations.  
    • Assists in the set-up and take down for programs/rentals and is present for the duration of events.
  2. Programs and coordinates various programs (e.g. lectures, tours, bus trips, and concerts):
    • Attends and sets up events/equipment and introduces programs or speakers.
    • Compiles and maintains program records and statistics.
    • Conducts general tours and tours for special interest groups.
    • Books and schedules tours.
    • Compiles and maintains tour statistics.
  3. Presents programs for child and adult classes/workshops:
    • Registers participants and maintains records.
    • May be required to evaluate the success of classes/workshops and individual instructors.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Grade 12 or equivalent and/or relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience dealing with computerized retail transactions.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to address a large group in a tour or sessions.

Preferred

  • Standard First Aid, CPR/AED an asset.
  • An interest in History/Museums is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Usual public office conditions.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May sometimes be required to work alone in the building.
  • Shifts will be scheduled on evenings and weekends.
  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required.
