Job Description

Senior Accountant

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Accountant for our CPA Firm.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and managing the preparation and presentation of reports, compilations, annual reviews, and audits for clients, ensuring the financial reporting is accurate and timely. This individual will also be critical to the team through T1 -Personal Tax Return season. The candidate must be able to manage the team’s overall goals while simultaneously meeting their own personal workload. Candidate should also have a strong history of CRA compliance and knowledge of accounting software.  

 

Duties: 

  • Ensure CRA compliance and accuracy in financial statements and reports.
  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors.
  • Maintain existing accounting policies and procedures, while also implementing improvements when necessary.
  • Develop action plans based on client needs, while supporting and advising team members. 
  • Perform both audit and assurance activities. 
  • Hire, train, and supervise team members and other staff. 
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports (including findings from Reviews, Compilations, and audits).
  • Continuous study and application of updates and changes in financial legal and CRA requirements.
  • Prepare and check T1 – Personal Tax Returns. 
  • Perform client consultations as required.

Experience Required

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Proven work experience (3-5 years) in accounting.
  • CPA or other relevant accounting designation. 
  • Working use of MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of audit procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of assurance. 
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial procedures (including but not limited to; budgeting, reporting, reviews, corporate taxes, forecasting, compilation, audit, etc.) 
  • Strong understanding of accounting software (Quickbooks, Caseware, & Sage).  
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to review team member’s work.
  • High degree of skill in preparing and checking T1 – Personal Tax Returns.  
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Integrity and ability to handle sensitive financial information. 
  • Time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Lifetime learning and upkeep with tax code updates.
