Job Description

The Senior HSE Field Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing Sierra Construction’s health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance across multiple field projects. Acting as a senior member of the HSE field team, this position bridges field operations and HSE leadership, providing expert guidance, mentorship to HSE Coordinators, and ensuring full compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.

The Senior HSE Field Coordinator will take ownership of complex site-level safety initiatives, contribute to incident investigations, and lead the implementation of proactive safety management programs to promote a culture of safety excellence across all projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the HSE Field Manager in the implementation of company-wide HSE programs, ensuring consistent application across multiple job sites.
  • Ensure all field operations comply with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), ISO 14001, COR, and other relevant safety and environmental standards.
  • Lead site inspections, safety audits, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
  • Coordinate and monitor subcontractor safety compliance, providing guidance and enforcement where necessary.
  • Lead or assist in investigations of incidents and near misses, conducting root cause analysis and developing corrective action plans.
  • Prepare detailed HSE reports and present findings to the HSE Field Manager and project leadership teams.
  • Monitor trends in incident data to identify systemic issues and recommend preventive measures.
  • Provide mentorship and support to HSE Coordinators, offering technical guidance and professional development.
  • Deliver training and ensure all training and certifications are current, properly documented, and in compliance with legislative and internal standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement in HSE performance, identifying opportunities for innovation and enhanced field practices.
  • Collaborate with project and site management teams to integrate HSE considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Support emergency response preparedness by organizing and evaluating drills, ensuring readiness at all sites.
  • Promote and reinforce a safety-first culture through active engagement, leadership visibility, and clear communication.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned, whether specifically or generally related to the role

Education

Bachelor Degree

Experience Required

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in HSE roles within the construction industry, including significant field-based experience.
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation is an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of OHSA, ISO 14001, COR, and other relevant HSE regulations and standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of COR and ISO audit processes, with accreditation or eligibility to be accredited to conduct audits under the respective standards.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with diverse site teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in HSE management software and Microsoft Office Suite; SALUS experience considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in incident investigation and data interpretation.

Wage Details

$44.3 per hour
