Job Overview:

We are looking to hire a full time Tool Design and Process Technician to join our team. The position is in person, located at our facility in Tavistock, Ontario. This position focuses on the use of SolidWorks to design tooling to manufacture metal parts in compacting presses. It also involves designing and acquiring other fixtures and consumables for secondary operations, including drilling, tapping, turning, and milling. The successful candidate must possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn the unique powder metal process. This position is for an existing vacancy.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Use SolidWorks to design powder metal tooling, and various jigs and fixtures to produce customer parts, based on the necessary calculations
  • Procure tool quotes, and prepare purchase orders
  • Determine processes & establish routers with appropriate tolerancing and details, and update them as required
  • Design, and/or Slice and 3D Print various models, including customer parts, geometry verification for select tooling, and replacement tooling
  • Use CAM Software to generate programs for machining production parts and various tooling
  • Verify correct tooling once received using various precision measuring equipment, work with the setter during initial set up, and trouble shoot issues as they arise
  • Compile tooling for repair by tool makers, and ensure common failures are improved upon
  • Search operations for improvements when quality or productivity goals are not met
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

 

Education

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year post secondary program related to Mechanical Design or Manufacturing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using 3D modelling software (preferably SolidWorks)

Skills and Abilities

  • Willing and able to learn the unique process of powder metallurgy
  • Proficient in the use of 3D modelling software, including: generating and altering solid models, preparing properly dimensioned 2D drawings, and preparing accurate assemblies
  • Proficient in the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment, such as calipers and micrometers
  • Knowledge of precision machining techniques and practices is required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is required
  • Knowledge of optical measuring machines is an asset

Compensation and Benefits

What We Offer:

  • Competitive wage rate of $30-$40 an hour, depending on relevant experience
  • 40 to 44 hours per week, with flexible start times and paid 30 minutes of lunch per day
  • Vacation- 2 weeks vacation to start  (4 % vacation pay added to every pay deposit)
  • Benefits-medical, dental, vision, critical illness, drug coverage, health spending account; co-pay bi-weekly premium, uniform rental provided 100 % coverage by employer
  • Year End bonus – eligibility after 6 months of continuous full-time employment

Wage Details

$30 - $40 per hour
