Job Description

The Morning Manager is a seasonal leadership role responsible for overseeing early morning farm operations, including farmers’ market and home delivery takeoffs, and daily logistics. Working independently during early hours, this role ensures teams are set up for success, orders are accurate, and operations run smoothly before the broader team arrives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Early Morning Operations and Takeoffs (4:00am-8:30am)
  • Be on site daily for farmers’ markets, home delivery, and pop-up takeoffs
  • Support timely departures by assisting with loading, coordinating teams, and addressing issues such as missing supplies, sleep-ins, or no-shows
  • Ensure home delivery teams leave on schedule and with all required items, including add-ons
  • Daily Logistics (9:00am - 12:00pm) - a variety of tasks that may include:
  • Organizing and structuring daily wholesale orders and creating a daily sales summary sheet
  • Prepare baked goods and products for Friday market prep, including boxing, packaging, and organizing crates
  • Assemble beef subscription boxes, including weighing, labelling, and calculating contents
  • Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting flowers and crops
  • Support garden maintenance, landscaping, and seasonal transitions
  • Complete farm related errands such as picking up supplies or delivery items
  • Jump in to assist other teams (Pick-Your-Own, farm kitchen, food truck, freezing team) as needed

Schedule:

May through November: extended work week may be required.

 

Reporting:

This role will be independent but requires weekly (at least) meetings with supervisors and other upper management employees. This role will also require regular collaboration with barn crew leaders. Support and guidance are readily available.

 

Location & Working Conditions:

  • On site at Thames River Melons, 765875 Township Road 5, Innerkip ON
  • Travel may be required; having access to your own vehicle is required
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work arrangements are essential

Education

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

  • 3+ years of experience in agriculture, project management, sales, or a related field
  • Post-secondary education in agriculture, project management, sales, or a similar discipline is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams or coordinating workflows, with a proven ability to take initiative and problem-solve independently
  • A passion for local farming and produce and familiarity with agriculture industry
  • Ability to speak conversational Spanish a definite asset. Opportunity to assist a keen would-be language learner.
  • Comfortable working early mornings (4:00 a.m. start) and making independent operational decisions before the broader team arrives
  • Proficient in email, telephone communication, social media platforms, Point of Sale systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Results-driven, with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, create actionable plans, and follow through
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and decision-making skills in dynamic environments
  • Detail-oriented with strong accuracy in order management, invoicing, inventory tracking, and documentation.
  • Calm under pressure and solutions-focused when addressing last-minute changes, staffing gaps, or order adjustments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect empathetically with both staff and customers
  • Willingness to work side by side with barn crew, knowing that hands will get dirty!
