Job Description

The Pick-Your-Own (PYO) Supervisors are customer-facing leadership roles, responsible for overseeing daily PYO operations while supporting market kitchen and food truck activities as needed. These roles act as the on-site point of contact for staff and visitors, helping ensure smooth operations, a welcoming customer experience, and strong communication between teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and guide PYO staff during shifts
  • Oversee PYO inventory: produce, packaging, and other supplies
  • Model, friendly professional, customer service and support staff in handling visitor questions or concerns
  • Monitor visitor flow and ensure safe respectful use of farm spaces
  • Answer questions, help problem-solve, and step in when additional support is needed
  • Greet customers, explain how the PYO works, hand out baskets, and go over farm rules
  • Help restock produce, arrange displays, and keep the market area clean and inviting
  • Weigh produce, process payments, and answer customer questions about our products
  • Regularly tidy up the market, check-in stations, and washrooms to maintain a welcoming space
  • Assist with additional areas of the PYO including the Kitchen and Food Truck
  • Additional tasks as necessary: be collecting eggs, watering plants, pulling weeds, or helping with other small farm projects.

Schedule:

  • Season: May - October
  • Potential Shifts (exact schedule to be discussed):
  • Morning: 8:00am – 3:00pm
  • Afternoon/Evening: 3:00pm – 8:00pm

Reporting:

This role will be independent but requires weekly (at least) meetings with supervisors and other upper management employees. Support and guidance are readily available.

 

Location & Working Conditions:

  • On site at Thames River Melons, 765875 Township Road 5, Innerkip ON
  • Travel is required; having access to your own vehicle is required
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work arrangements are essential.

Hours: Full time – 35 – 40 hours/week

 

Education

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

  • 3+ years of experience in project management, leadership, administration, sales, or a related field
  • Post-secondary education in project management, sales, or a similar discipline is an asset
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing staff and overseeing projects
  • Familiarity with farmers’ markets and sales is preferred
  • A passion for local farming and produce is a strong advantage
  • Proficiency in email, phone communication, social media, Point of Sale systems, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace
  • Results-driven, with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, develop actionable plans, and achieve goals
  • Strong multitasking and time-management abilities, with a knack for problem-solving and quick decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect empathetically with both staff and customers
  • A hardworking, determined attitude with creativity and resourcefulness
  • Ability to lift and carry ~20lbs and stand for long periods of time
