Volunteer Job Description

Organization: Woodstock Horticultural Society
Location: Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings/events in Woodstock, ON
Commitment: Approx. 5–6 hours/month (up to 40 hours total)
Duration: November  2025 – April/May 2026
Positions Available: 2–3 volunteers

 

🌼 About Us

The Woodstock Horticultural Society has been cultivating community and a love of gardening since 1883. We host monthly meetings, guest speakers, flower shows, youth programs, and community planting initiatives—all powered by volunteers. Now, we’re looking to grow our online presence with your help!

 

📱 Role Overview

We’re seeking 2–3 volunteers to coordinate our social media presence throughout the fall and winter seasons. This is a primarily remote role, with occasional in-person meetings or attendance at key events. Volunteers will work closely with and report directly to the Society’s President.

 

🛠 Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
  • Share highlights from events, speaker nights, and seasonal gardening tips
  • Write captions and updates that reflect our friendly, community-focused tone
  • Create engaging graphics and visuals using Canva
  • Monitor engagement and suggest ways to improve reach and visibility
  • Promote upcoming events like our plant auction, flower shows, and youth programs
  • Coordinate with the President and attend occasional in-person meetings or events as needed

Experience Required

🌱 What You Bring

  • Experience using Canva to create social media graphics and promotional materials
  • Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
  • Strong writing and visual communication skills
  • Interest in gardening, environment, storytelling, art, photography, social media, marketing, non-profit organizations or community engagement
  • Ability to work independently and meet flexible deadlines
  • Willingness to attend occasional in-person meetings or events in Woodstock
