Position Overview
Working as part of the Town of Ingersoll’s Summer Camp team, the Behavioral Inclusion Counsellor is responsible for supporting the inclusion and well-being of camp participants with special needs. Incumbents will work closely with parents, campers, and the Program Supervisor to develop and implement individualized support plans, tailored strategies, and interventions that meet each child’s unique needs.
The Behavioral Inclusion Counsellor will provide one-on-one guidance, encouragement, and instruction to help children fully engage in daily camp activities. They will monitor and respond to behavioral, social, and emotional needs, ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive environment. This role also involves coaching and collaborating with other camp staff to embed inclusive practices into day camp programming and to promote an understanding of diverse needs among all campers.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for post-secondary students currently enrolled in Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Special Education, or Early Childhood Education, or related fields, who are interested in gaining meaningful hands-on experience in supporting children with diverse needs while developing skills for a future career in behavioral support, education, or child development.
Other Requirements
Important Requirement: Candidates must be comfortable swimming and being in an aquatic environment.
● Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
● Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
● have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
● This position will begin June 22nd, 2026, to assist the Programs Supervisor with program planning, assisting with training on behavioral management.
● Summer Camp: Eight consecutive weeks, commencing July 6, 2026, to August 28, 2026, 40 hours per week. Mandatory planning/training scheduled week of June 29th, 2026.
Qualifications
● High school diploma (Grade 12) is the minimum, with a preference for a two-year diploma or university degree in fields like Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Special Education, or Early Childhood Education.
● Solid understanding of inclusion methods, best practices, and approaches.
● Demonstrated aptitude and passion for delivering an engaging and inclusive camp experience.
● Exceptional leadership capabilities, sensitivity, and problem-solving skills
● A commitment to health and safety and an understanding of how to mitigate various risks/hazards.
● The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently in an outdoor and aquatic
environment.
● Applicants must be available to attend required training and the full period of Summer Day Camp
Required Certifications, Licenses, Training
● Current Level C Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
● Crisis Prevention (CPI) considered an asset
● Any additional certifications demonstrating applicable experience working with children ages 4-12.
