Job Description

The General Manager of Sally Creek Lifestyle Homes is responsible for the overall performance of the homebuilding division, including construction execution, financial performance, sales oversight, and operational systems.

This role leads a small, cross-functional team and oversees all aspects of the business, from sales to pre-construction through to final occupancy, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and aligned with company quality standards and customer expectations.

The General Manager plays a critical role in improving margins, implementing scalable systems, and supporting the controlled growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Operations & Execution

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the homebuilding division across all active projects
  • Ensure alignment between construction, sales, design, and administrative functions
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements to drive performance
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Project Managers, and site team

Construction Execution

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities across multiple sites to ensure alignment with project schedules and milestones
  • Prepare detailed construction estimates including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and budget development for residential projects
  • Establish and maintain detailed construction schedules, sequencing, and critical path tracking
  • Monitor site productivity and ensure appropriate allocation of labour, materials, and equipment

Financial Performance & Cost Control

  • Proactively identify and resolve construction challenges, delays, and coordination issues
  • Develop, monitor, and manage project budgets, including forecasting and variance analysis
  • Own and manage division-level P&L performance
  • Monitor job costing, margins, and variance reporting across all projects
  • Identify cost risks and implement strategies to improve gross margins
  • Work closely with accounting on reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management

Sales, Product & Customer Experience Oversight

  • Oversee sales pipeline and performance
  • Support pricing strategy in collaboration with ownership
  • Oversee product design, specifications, and consistency across homes
  • Ensure a high-quality customer experience from initial sale through warranty

Team Leadership & Trade Management

  • Provide direction and oversight to site supervisors and field staff
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors and trades to ensure performance, accountability, and adherence to scope
  • Lead regular site meetings, including scheduling, coordination, and safety discussions
  • Promote clear communication across all stakeholders to ensure alignment and efficiency on-site

Quality Assurance & Deficiency Management

  • Implement and enforce quality control processes at all stages of construction
  • Conduct site inspections and milestone reviews to ensure work meets design intent and company standards
  • Manage deficiency tracking, resolution, and closeout in a timely manner
  • Ensure consistency in product delivery across all homes and developments

Schedule & Performance Management

  • Track project progress against established timelines and key milestones
  • Identify schedule risks and implement recovery plans where required
  • Provide regular reporting on construction progress, budget status, and key issues
  • Drive accountability for schedule adherence across internal teams and trades

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all construction activities comply with OHSA and Sierra Construction’s health and safety policies
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all job sites
  • Conduct or support site safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Ensure all trades and personnel adhere to site safety requirements and protocols

Stakeholder Coordination & Communication

  • Act as the primary liaison between construction, development, and other internal departments
  • Coordinate with consultants, inspectors, and municipal authorities as required
  • Provide clear and consistent updates to senior leadership on project status, risks, and performance
  • Support customer-facing teams in resolving construction-related inquiries or issues when required

Project Closeout

  • Oversee final stages of construction, including inspections, deficiencies, and occupancy readiness
  • Ensure all documentation, warranties, and closeout requirements are completed accurately
  • Coordinate handover processes to customer service and warranty teams
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying lessons learned and opportunities for process enhancement
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned, whether specifically or generally related to the role

Education

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline

  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in residential construction, including low-rise home building

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects or subdivisions simultaneously

  • Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code, municipal requirements, and residential construction practices

  • Experience working with production home building processes and schedules is preferred

  • Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, or similar)

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job sites

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: $110,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
