Job Description
The cook will be responsible for menu planning, purchasing of groceries and supplies, daily preparation of nutritious meals/snacks, and cleaning/housekeeping duties within the kitchen. The position requires understanding and strong attention to detail of nutritional guidelines to create menus that cater to dietary needs, allergies and/or restrictions, intolerances, or preferences of children/families. The work of the cook and preparation of food must be conducted in strict compliance with the local Health Department, Day Nurseries Act and all other governing bodies/legislation. The cook must meet and maintain nutritional requirements as identified by the Supervisor, Health Department, Ministry of Education and Canada’s Food Guide. The cook will work in consultation with the Supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with all programs within/associated with the Centre.
Education
Experience Required
Must possess strong technical skills alongside numerous soft skills. In-depth knowledge of food, including ingredients, nutrition, and key recipes-Knife skills-Knowledge of different styles of cuisine-Attention to detail and high standards-Ability to work well in a team-Strong time-management skills-Health and safety expertise. Will need a vulnerable sector check (VSR).
Compensation and Benefits
$22.00 to $24.00 per hour depending on experience. Will be eligible for benefits after 3 months of employment (probation period).
