Overview of the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Packaging, this position is responsible for leading and directing the Packaging Department in order to package quality cheese products in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner. The position reports to the Packaging Manager.
How you will make contributions that matter:
- Translate packaging requirements into daily work schedule and direct staff in various departments in the execution of the work in accordance with GMP and SOP requirements
- Liaise with other internal departments (Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality Assurance) to solve packaging related problems
- Perform annual performance evaluations, monitor attendance, and address performance issues
- Promote the plant’s safety programs and policies in order to reduce employee accidents and injuries by providing safety training and enforcing safety practices at all times
- Establishes a team-based work environment where continuous improvement initiatives, department performance and personal achievement are promoted and rewarded
- Ensures KPI targets are achieved including safety, quality, efficiencies, cost, and health and safety
- Maximize profitability of the packaging department through efficient use of raw materials, productive use of available labour and control of overhead costs
- Ensure the packaging of a quality product while maintaining a safe and motivated workforce;
- Provide leadership, direction, guidance and support to supervisory team and plant personnel. Develop positive, motivating, and efficient communication with all employees
- Maintain a positive employee environment through consistent practices and leadership in areas such as employee development, safety and training
- Troubleshoot and lead problem-solving efforts through the facilitation of team meetings and on-the-floor leadership to effectively change systems and procedures through the process of continuous improvement;
- Ensure the Company’s quality and sanitation standards are met through close liaison with Quality Assurance and full participation in the HACCP program
- Schedules production and employees to ensure packaging requirements are met on a timely basis
- Effectively uses operational data on a daily basis to measure and communicate trends; reinforces positive results and initiates corrective actions as appropriate
- Perform annual performance evaluations, monitor attendance, and address performance issues
You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Management, Food Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience in food manufacturing or packaging, preferably dairy manufacturing
- Experience in successfully leading, coaching, motivating and developing a team in a “hands on” environment
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated analytical organizational skills
- Must be self-motivated, results oriented, possess high degree of initiative, work well under pressure
- Strong interpersonal skills, professional attitude and the ability to interact with various individuals
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word , Excel
