Position Summary

Working as part of a team, this position is responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance of diesel engines/equipment and performing tasks such as checking the batteries of a vehicle, inspecting other parts, adjusting the wheels of a vehicle, and ensuring any other malfunction is diagnosed. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair, and replacing parts and components. 
  • Adjusting equipment and repairing or replacing any defective parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other maintenance work.
  • Diagnosing malfunctions or problems using a computerized system or testing equipment to determine the root cause of any issues.
  • Carrying out any repairs as needed to replace the transmission or other damaged parts.
  • Understanding the inner workings of various machines such as forklifts, ready mix trucks, travel lifts, shunt trucks, graders and any other mechanical equipment which may require repair.
  • Engine repair; - Adjusting, overhauling, repairing and reassembling engines, transmissions, clutches, rear end differentials, brakes, drive shafts, axles, and other assemblies.
  • Support other members of the maintenance team.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the machines and equipment.
  • Electrical and electronic systems; diesel engines; diagnostics; alignment, steering, and suspension; brake systems.
  • Fuel systems; ignition and electrical systems.
  • AC, cooling, and heating systems.
  • Overhaul; drive train components; machining; truck-trailer repair.
  • Operate electronic/diagnostic equipment to analyze vehicle/equipment problems and provide timely, cost-effective repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure accuracy in all work functions and responsibilities.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance is in accordance with MOT standards.
  • Ensures that work meets all applicable Health and Safety Standard Working Procedures
  • All other duties as required.

Education

Post Secondary Degree

Experience Required

Education/ Qualifications

  • Valid 310T License – in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario.

  • Valid “G” driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work.

  • Experience with welding will be considered an asset.

  • Applicants with 3+ years’ experience will be viewed with priority.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Accurate and highly analytical.

  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job you are regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, lift, climb, push-pull, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, and stoop.

  • May require working in hot (32C) and cold (-25C) temperatures.

  • Travel may be required.

  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 to 100 lbs.

  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools.

  • Overtime as required.
