Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for designing, assembling, commissioning, maintaining and repairing industrial and facility equipment. This includes building control panels, wiring production lines, inspecting utilities, troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues, and coordinating contractors while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. During new facility startups, duties will be project-based, involving tasks such as rigging, wiring, panel layout, ESA inspections, and project management.
Responsibilities
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code and project specifications.
- Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems operation.
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
- Familiarity with sensors, AC/DC motors, Variable Speed Drives
- Support other members of the maintenance team.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the machines.
- Troubleshooting existing and layout of new branch circuitry.
- Installation, replacement and repair distribution equipment and electrical controls such as switchboards, panelboards, disconnect switches.
- Troubleshooting electrical issues using appropriate testing devices.
- Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures
- Ability to operate hand tools and power tools associated with electrical work
- Work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
- Work directly with management to develop and execute focused improvement projects involving process optimizations, upgrades, and the resolution of reoccurring problems
- Read and interpret schematics for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, logic, process flow and instrumentation diagrams, and Work with Electrical Apprentices, teaching them the trade.
- Provide a strong presence on the production floor, monitoring all equipment and operators for safety, quality, waste or efficiency risks and improvement opportunities.
- Attend daily production meetings to gain feedback on downtime, line efficiencies and areas needing immediate attention.
- Provide support during annual overhauls and as a technical and developmental support role when required.
- Work with the projects team when projects arise to help complete as time permits.
- Personal continuous development through training and hands-on experience.
- All other duties as required.
Education
Experience Required
Education/ Qualifications
- Certified 442A Industrial Electrician or 309A Construction Maintenance Electrician.
- Experience working in commercial and industrial environments
- A minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Successful applicants will be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong Mechanical aptitude.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Accurate and highly analytical.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job you are regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, lift, climb, push-pull, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, and stoop.
- May require working in hot (32C) and cold (-25C) temperatures.
- Travel may be required.
- Ability to push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 to 100 lbs.
- Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools.
- Overtime as required
