As a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician, your main task is to support our mission by developing, maintaining, and analyzing spatial data that underpins our network design and field operations. You will collaborate closely with the engineering, construction, and planning teams to ensure accurate mapping of existing infrastructure, efficient planning of new fibre routes, and seamless integration of field-collected data into our enterprise GIS platform.

- Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Primary Responsibilities:
- Update and maintain geodatabases with fibre, copper, and coax network assets
- Perform quality control (QC) on spatial data to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Create detailed maps and spatial visualizations for project planning, permitting, and stakeholder presentations
- Generate maps and splice plans to create a visual representation of our underground and aerial infrastructure
- Support field crews by providing accurate mapping and ensuring timely updates to the GIS data once infrastructure is placed and/or located
- Integrate as-built data (ie: GPS capture, field sketches, etc) into the GIS for up-to-date records
- Conduct spatial analyses to optimize route selection, evaluate potential obstacles, and assess network redundancy
- Prepare regular reports and dashboards on deployment progress, asset inventory
- Assist in configuring and maintaining GIS applications (ArcGIS) and extensions (ArcFM)
- Liaise with Planning and Implementation, permitting, and project management teams to gather requirements and deliver GIS solutions
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data standards, workflow procedures, and metadata
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Diploma or Degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology or other related field
- 2+ years working experience with GIS and AutoCad, preferably within a telecommunications and fibre-optic environment
- Experience in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Entrprise, Schneider Fibre Manager (ArcFM), AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong understanding of geodatabase design, special data models, and topology rules
- Experience with GPS data collection tools (Trimble, Pointman, etc) and mobile GIS workflows
- Telecommunication experience is a strong asset and preferred
- Experience with outside plant (OSP) design of utilities (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fiber optics, etc.)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, inter-personal skills, teamwork and collaborative abilities
- Demonstrated ability in multi-tasking, planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines
- Working knowledge of Aerial and Underground designs, drawings, and specifications
- Must have sound judgment and decision-making abilities that consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and determine the most appropriate with limited supervision
- Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Must have a valid Class G Drivers License and clean driving record
