Job Description

The Woodstock Police Service is accepting applications from internal and external applicants for the following position:

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (FULL-TIME) – ONE VACANCY

The Woodstock Police Service is a municipal policing agency comprised of approximately 100 Officers and 50 Civilians who are dedicated to servicing the city of Woodstock, Ontario. Woodstock is a rapidly growing community situated along the highway 401 & 403 corridors between London and Toronto. Our members are an integral part of the community we serve and we are committed to maintaining community safety and upholding excellence, accountability, integrity and professionalism.

Position:

The Maintenance Technician shall be responsible for a variety of tasks, the priority of which will include the janitorial and maintenance required to support the facilities and vehicle fleet of the Woodstock Police Service.

This position requires a high energy, self-motivated individual who has previous custodial and maintenance experience in a busy, fast paced work environment. Applicants must be able to organize and prioritize tasks.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Complete janitorial tasks that include vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning washrooms, garbage and recycling disposal, etc.
  • Perform external groundskeeping tasks that include lawn and garden maintenance, snow removal, salting of sidewalks, etc.
  • Apply basic maintenance and repairs to facility and equipment that include painting, installations, etc.
  • Clean, disinfect and sanitize high-risk environments such as prisoner cells and cruisers.
  • Provide manual labour for set up and clean up duties, minor repairs and shipping and receiving of various deliveries.
  • Compliance with WHMIS and OHSA regulations.
  • Complete daily inspections and monitor internal systems including fire alarms, plumbing and HVAC

Working Conditions:

  • Duties are performed in areas that would expose the Technician to: temperature extremes and inclement weather, dirty and/or unsanitary environments such as holding cells and garages, loud noise, lead exposure, strong odours and fumes and potential exposure to infectious diseases when working in custody areas.

Physical Demands:

  • Assignments will include activities such as sitting, standing, walking, climbing, lifting objects greater than 40lbs, twisting, driving, reading and writing.

 

 

Education

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Class G Driver’s License.
  • Minimum one (1) year previous experience in facility operations, maintenance and/or cleanliness techniques.
  • Previous experience with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC duties
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical stamina and dexterity.
  • Experience with basic computer software programs such as Word and Outlook.

The rate of pay will be in keeping with the current Civilian Collective Agreement, ranging from $69,184.99 (probationary) to $82,320.89 annually.
