Job Description

Lind Equipment is a leading manufacturer of portable electrical products designed for industrial and hazardous work environments. Known for safety, durability, and innovation, we are expanding our manufacturing footprint with a new fabrication and assembly facility in Southern Ontario.

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Plant Manager to lead our existing production teams, and set up new automation. The successful candidate will have strong electrical and manufacturing experience and assist with operational responsibility as required.

The Role

This is a “hands-on” plant leadership role that will be responsible for ongoing production performance, supervision and direction of all current & future manufacturing and[LE1] automation implementation. The successful candidate will bring strong experience in electrical manufacturing, fabrication, implementation of automation-enabled manufacturing, and Lean operations, with the ability to assist in plant production and expansion. There may also be requirements for assistance in facility relocation, new equipment acquisition during our plant move in March.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Operations Management

  • Manage daily plant operations including fabrication, electrical assembly, automation systems, Powder coating, packaging, shipping, and inventory
  • Utilize deep technical knowledge of laser cutting, metal forming, welding, Electrical panel wiring, mechanical assembly and automated manufacturing processes
  • Develop and manage production schedules, ensuring on-time delivery and efficient material flow
  • Implement standardized work, SOP’s, production controls, and visual management systems
  • Partner with Engineering and Sales to ensure manufacturability and continuous improvement of product designs that meet or exceed customer demands

Automation, Lean & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Industry 4.0 initiatives across the plant
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation, error-proofing (poka-yoke), and digital production tracking
  • Lead productivity, quality, and cost-reduction initiatives using data-driven decision-making
  • Research and introduce new technologies, equipment, and processes to improve scalability and efficiency

Leadership & People Management

  • Recruit, develop, and lead supervisors, technicians, and hourly employees
  • Manage scheduling, timekeeping, performance reviews, and incentive programs
  • Build a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and housekeeping standards
  • Ensure employees are trained, qualified, and properly equipped prior to work
  • Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and document safety training

Secondary Responsibilities (first 3 months)

Facility relocation & Setup

  • Assist in the relocation and setup of the our relocated manufacturing facility, assisting in layout design, utilities, workflow, and space optimization
  • Assist in planning locations & commissioning exiting equipment, as well as validate any need for new fabrication machinery and production equipment
  • Lead the selection, setup, and integration of automation tooling, fixtures, and equipment (semi-automated and automated processes)
  • Help develop the relocation roadmap, timelines, moving budgets, and continuous production ramp-up plans
  • Determine additional staffing requirements and evaluate the organizational structure
  • Assist in procurement and implementation of a new ERP creating a "single source of truth" by connecting data from different departments into one platform for improved efficiency, better decision-making, and unified operations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

1st year Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Facility relocation launch to be delivered on time and within approved budget
  • Production ramp-up achieved to target output levels within defined timelines
  • On-time delivery performance (%)
  • Labour productivity and throughput improvement
  • Scrap, rework, and quality defect reduction
  • Successful implementation of automation projects (ROI, cycle time reduction)
  • Health & safety performance (incident rate, compliance)
  • Employee engagement, retention, and training completion

Additional requirements

  • Assist in procurement and implementation of a new ERP creating a "single source of truth" by connecting data from different departments into one platform for improved efficiency, better decision-making, and unified operations.

Education

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years of plant Electrical Panel Manufacturing experience in a production environment (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of plant or fabrication management experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
  • Proven experience implementing or managing automated or semi-automated manufacturing processes (required)
  • Strong background in electrical wiring and testing to ESA standards
  • Strong background in metal fabrication, sheet metal, aluminum, and steel
  • Experience in expansions, or major equipment installations is a strong asset
  • Education in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills

Compensation and Benefits

$85,000 – $95,000 per year
