Job Description

The Senior Lifeguard would be responsible for the overall operation of the pool at Maple Grove and the supervision of the junior lifeguard pool staff. 

All lifeguards are responsible for the general supervision and safety of patrons in the pool area, overall maintenance of the swim area and change rooms and uphold all health standards. Through this job, the lifeguards will gain valuable life and professional skills such as time management, communication, leadership, authority and career related experience directly related to lifeguarding and emergency medical procedures.

The candidate draws upon a broad skill base to ensure that facilities are maintained to a standard that allows the organization to accomplish its mission of “facilitating ministries that make and grow disciples of Jesus Christ”. Some weekend work should be expected.

Job Responsibilities

Safety

Lifeguards must maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the water and on deck and enforce all pool rules. You need to speak out when a guardian is not watching their child or children in their care; or when patrons are not behaving in a way that is safe within the pool area.

Act quickly and appropriately to provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency services. Provide first aid treatment if necessary to any persons needing assistance. Follow all health and safety regulations. 

Conduct swim test for children to allow them to swim in the deep end.

Facilities maintenance

Lifeguards oversee the maintenance of the swimming pool and work with Southwestern Public Health Inspector to keep chemicals balanced and uphold health standards. They are also required to maintain cleanliness of the swim area, the change rooms, complete daily pool vacuuming and chemical checks while keeping accurate daily records. The Facilities and Maintenance Manager must be informed of any pool related maintenance issues or safety concerns where maintenance work is required.

Camp cover

Maintain and upgrade, as required, current qualifications and certifications Work closely with other staff including other Lifeguards, Executive Director, Office staff, Maintenance and Housekeeping staff, as required. Attendance of the weekly staff and prayer meetings.

Experience Required

Skills & Competencies

  • Standard First Aid & CPR C National Lifeguard Service Certification WHMIS & AED is an asset 
  • Current police records check/vulnerable sector Experience in the usage of pool chemicals and cleaning suppliers
  •  Organized and focused on tasks at hand, with leadership abilities

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays. 
  • Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn

Compensation and Benefits

12 weeks at 40 hours per week

$18.25/hour
