Job Description

Campground Maintenance Workers are responsible for assisting the Facilities and Maintenance Manager with general property maintenance such as grass cutting, clearing brush and emptying garbage and recycling bins around the camp property. This role is key in contributing to maintaining the overall appearance, cleanliness and tidiness of the campground.

This role also assists the Facilities and Maintenance Manager with repairs to camp owned facilities, which could include plumbing and carpentry. 

While employed at Maple Grove, campground maintenance workers will receive on-the-job training and hands on experience directly relating to carpentry, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance. They will gain life skills such as problem solving, teamwork, communication, and time management.

Job Responsibilities

Grass cutting and trimming

  • Work with a ride on lawn mower, a push mower, a tractor and mower finisher, and a line trimmer to cut approximately 20 acres of land. A leaf blower will also be used to clean up.

Clearing Brush

  • Assist with the clearing of branches and leaves that have fallen onto all camp owned areas.
  • Hand raking and hand shoveling of materials around camp. 
  • Tree trimming, using a saw, under the direct instruction and /supervision of your Manager. 
  • When required, digging out tree stumps and transporting them to the maintenance storage area

Taking out the trash

  • Assist in removing all camp trash from facilities and grounds containers. Trash is to be taken to the allocated dumpsters.

Projects

  • Assist your Manager with planning out camp projects, carrying supplies and tools to the location of the project and being responsible for the return of all tools to our storage area. 
  • Pressure washing.

Maintenance

  • Observe water leaks Observe electrical concerns.
  • Observe any areas of concern regarding sewage
  • Observe environmental concerns that may lead to damage of camp grounds and property.

Responsibility when operating machinery

  • You will need to have a valid drivers licence to operate our camp truck. The truck needs to be used to load and transport heavy and or bulky items around camp.
  • Care needs to be taken, security protocols followed and any maintenance concerns highlighted to your supervisor.

Experience Required

Skills & Competencies: 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to stay focused on the task at hand and not be distracted by campers. 
  • Strong mind and body, physically able to do manual labour. 
  • Basic knowledge of time management.
  • Some experience in woodwork, tree cutting, grass cutting and plumbing is preferable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with other staff to achieve camp goals. 
  • An organized and detail orientated individual who works well under pressure.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays when required.
  • Must have a G drivers licence. 
  • Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Compensation and Benefits

16 weeks at 40 hours per week

$17.60/hour
