Job Description
Job Overview
We are seeking Freelance Community Interpreters to facilitate effective communication across diverse settings. The ideal candidate will possess strong language proficiency, and excellent interpersonal skills to accurately interpret spoken and written language. This role is vital in bridging communication gaps in various environments, including healthcare, legal, educational, and community services. The Interpreter will work closely with clients and professionals to ensure clear understanding and seamless interactions.
PRIORITY: Dutch, German, Punjabi, and Spanish interpreters. However, applications for all languages are welcome.
Duties
- Provide accurate interpretation of spoken language between parties in real-time across multiple languages, including English and bilingual contexts.
- Facilitate effective communication during meetings, conferences, medical appointments, legal proceedings, and community events.
- Maintain confidentiality of all interpreted information in accordance with privacy standards and professional ethics.
Job Type: Freelance
Work Location: In person in Woodstock and remote for all of Ontario.
Education
Experience Required
Experience / Qualifications
- Formal training in Interpretation by a recognized institution OR ability to enroll in our community Interpreter Core Training Program (subsidies available).
- Bilingual proficiency in English and at least one additional language (demonstrated by ILSAT or CILISAT) OR ability to be tested.
- Proven experience in interpretation within diverse settings such as healthcare, legal, or community services, preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey messages accurately and effectively across different audiences.
- Prior experience working with bilingual populations or multicultural communities is a plus. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by enhancing communication accessibility for diverse populations through professional interpretation services.
Compensation and Benefits
CA$20.00-CA$30.00 per hour depending on the training.
