Job Description

We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated Infrastructure Skilled Labourer to join our growing civil construction team. This role involves supporting a variety of underground and surface infrastructure projects, including roadworks, sewer and watermain installation, storm systems, and site servicing.

The successful candidate will work closely with foremen, operators, and pipe crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the placement of PVC and concrete sewer and water main pipes in sewer trenches under the direction of a pipe layer.
  • Helping with setting manholes and catch basins to proper grade and alignment.
  • Participating in benching and parging of manholes and catch basins to ensure structural integrity and proper drainage.
  • Cutting pipes as necessary to fit the specified layouts as directed by pipe layers or site supervisors.
  • Carrying and positioning materials, tools, and equipment needed for the job.
  • Operating small construction equipment under supervision, such as jackhammers and quick-cut saws, to assist in excavation and site preparation tasks.
  • Using hand tools such as shovels, tape measures, levels, hammers, and rakes for various tasks around the construction site.
  • Assisting in reviewing locates and daylighting existing utilities to prevent damage to underground infrastructure.
  • Participating in confined space entry tasks with proper safety gear and supervision.
  • Removing debris, old, or broken piping systems to clear the way for new construction.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs to support construction activities.
  • Working under the guidance of more experienced workers like pipe layers to learn and grow in the field.
  • Required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Complying with all company health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required to support construction operations.

Experience Required

Skills

  • 1+ years of experience in a construction or excavation setting, with preference given to those with experience in sewer and water main projects.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools, materials, and techniques relevant to sewer and water main construction.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the supervision of pipe layers and site superintendents.
  • Must be safety conscious and willing to comply with all workplace safety protocols.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must have a valid G license.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential.
  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety, or willingness to obtain.
