Job Description

Sierra Construction Group is looking for Skilled Labourers in our Bridge Division. This position requires a hands-on professional with concrete construction experience. The role involves working closely with a team to execute bridge-related concrete tasks, such as formwork, rebar installation, and concrete pouring/finishing. The successful candidate will possess advanced skills in concrete work, adhere to safety standards, and contribute to the successful completion of large-scale bridge projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute tasks related to concrete formwork, reinforcing steel installation, and pouring/finishing for bridge structures.
  • Operate and maintain tools related to concrete construction, such as drills, saws, grinders, trowels, vibrators, and other power tools.
  • Assist with setting up and stripping formwork, installing scaffolding, and erecting shoring and falsework as required.
  • Ensure the precise placement of concrete, including leveling and smoothing surfaces, using hand and power tools.
  • Collaborate with foremen, engineers, and other team members to ensure project specifications and timelines are met.
  • Conduct regular inspections of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure they are in working condition and meet project requirements.
  • Comply with all workplace safety regulations and company policies, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with general site duties such as site clean-up, unloading/loading materials, and moving equipment as necessary.
  • Work effectively in a team environment while also taking responsibility for individual tasks and contributing to team success.

Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in concrete construction, particularly in bridge or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in concrete formwork, rebar tying, pouring, and finishing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of proper grading, leveling, and alignment techniques for concrete structures.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), operating hand and power tools, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to work long hours, including potential overtime, weekends, and night shifts when required.
  • Strong teamwork skills with a focus on collaboration.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure efficient coordination on-site.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.

Compensation and Benefits

The Skilled Labourer role offers an overall competitive union-based compensation package complete with wages between $31.60 & $41.50 (depending on experience) hourly with scheduled increases, clothing and safety footwear allowance, pension and health benefits, ample opportunity for career advancement, and various other perks.
