Job Description

Your journey toward becoming a police officer can start sooner than you think.

The Woodstock Police Service is currently seeking Special Constables and Cadets — essential members of our team who gain valuable, hands-on experience in policing and public safety.

General Information

Special Constables support daily police operations and help ensure community and court safety. These are uniformed civilian positions with peace officer authority under the Community Safety and Policing Act.

WPS currently employs Special Constables in two key roles:

Special Constable – Court Security

Assigned to the Woodstock Courthouse, these members:

  • Provide courtroom and courthouse security
  • Search and screen individuals in custody
  • Operate security scanning equipment at entry points
  • Transport prisoners to and from court, correctional facilities, and other police services
  • Serve court documents and process judicial orders

Special Constable – Cadet

Cadets are assigned to Woodstock Police Headquarters, working directly with frontline platoons. They:

  • Search, monitor, and escort individuals in custody
  • Conduct DNA collection and fingerprinting
  • Assist with prisoner transport
  • Support patrol officers and respond to minor calls for service

These positions provide an exceptional foundation for those pursuing a career in policing.

 

Education

Secondary School Diploma

Experience Required

Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent)
  • Possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence (G class) and a good driving record
  • Have no criminal record and be of good moral character
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, teamwork, and professionalism under pressure

Additional requirements:

An OACP Certificate is required for Cadet applicants

Applicants must successfully pass background investigations and reference checks
