The Mission

South Gate Centre is a 50+ Active Adult Recreation and Community Centre built around connection, wellness, participation, and community. Our mission is to engage the 50+ community in an open, active, social environment driven by volunteers, while promoting wellness of mind, body and soul.

Every day, something happens at South Gate worth sharing. A new program brings people together. A volunteer goes above and beyond. A member tries something new. A skill is shared in the woodshop. A room is filled with laughter. An event brings the community through our doors. 

We’re looking for someone who understands those moments and wants to be a part of the South Gate story in a way that makes people want to be part of it through the sharing of knowledge and experience.

The Opportunity

South Gate Centre's kitchen and hospitality teams keep a lot of plates spinning, literally.

We're looking for Volunteer Dishwashers to assist with daytime functions, special events and, when needed, lend a hand to our main dishwasher.

This is an important behind-the-scenes role that helps our kitchen team keep things moving and allows our events to run smoothly.

Your Impactful Responsibilities

• Wash, rinse and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils and kitchen equipment
• Help keep the dishwashing and kitchen areas clean and organized
• Assist with putting clean items away
• Support daytime functions and events as needed
• Work alongside kitchen staff and other volunteers
• Step in to assist the main dishwasher during busier periods

The Logistics

• Time Commitment: 4 – 10 hours per week, with some flexibility.
• Duration: minimum 3 month commitment with opportunities to continue upon review
• Reporting & Support: You’ll report to our Food Services Manager and collaborate with other staff and volunteers.

What We’re Looking For

• Reliable and willing to pitch in
• Comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment
• Able to stand for periods of time
• Good attention to cleanliness and organization
• A team player who doesn't mind getting their hands wet
• Previous kitchen or dishwashing experience is an asset, but not required
• Passion for the Mission: A genuine interest in the nonprofit sector and our work in engaging the 50+ community providing opportunities to promote wellness of mind, body and soul through active and social programs.
