The Mission

South Gate Centre is a 50+ Active Adult Recreation and Community Centre built around connection, wellness, participation, and community. Our mission is to engage the 50+ community in an open, active, social environment driven by volunteers, while promoting wellness of mind, body and soul.

Every day, something happens at South Gate worth sharing. A new program brings people together. A volunteer goes above and beyond. A member tries something new. A skill is shared in the woodshop. A room is filled with laughter. An event brings the community through our doors. 

We’re looking for someone who understands those moments and wants to be a part of the South Gate story in a way that makes people want to be part of it through the sharing of knowledge and experience.

The Opportunity

South Gate Centre hosts a busy calendar of dances, special events, social gatherings, celebrations and community activities. Behind every successful event is a team of volunteers helping things run smoothly.

We're looking for Hospitality & Events Volunteers to help welcome guests, serve refreshments, clear tables and keep our events looking and feeling great from start to finish.

If you're someone who notices when a table needs attention, enjoys chatting with people and doesn't mind jumping in wherever you're needed, this could be your kind of volunteer role.

Your Impactful Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist members and guests during events
• Serve beverages, refreshments and meals as required
• Clear tables and help keep event spaces clean and organized Assist with basic set-up and tear-down
• Help maintain a welcoming and friendly atmosphere
• Work alongside South Gate staff and other volunteers
• Assist with special events, dances, dinners and daytime functions

The Logistics

• Time Commitment: 2 – 4 hours, as needed for events during the upcoming holiday season.
• Duration: minimum 3 month commitment with opportunities to continue upon review
• Reporting & Support: You’ll report to our Food Services Manager and collaborate with our Program & Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Décor Coordinator throughout your term.

What We’re Looking For

• Friendly, approachable and comfortable interacting with people
• Reliable and willing to pitch in as part of a team
• Comfortable being on your feet and moving around during events
• Previous hospitality, serving or event experience is an asset, but not required
• A positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed
• Passion for the Mission: A genuine interest in the nonprofit sector and our work in engaging the 50+ community providing opportunities to promote wellness of mind, body and soul through active and social programs.
