Volunteer Job Description

Why volunteer at RRHS?

Each year, volunteers provide their invaluable time, skills and talents in the volunteer programs offered at Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll (AHI) and Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital (TDMH). AHI & TDMH volunteers enhance the experience for our patients, families, visitors, staff and physicians. Their compassion and commitment to helping others has a direct impact on the patient experience and quality of service that we deliver.

Why do they choose to volunteer?

· Give back for care receive

· Fulfill a sense of contribution to the community

· Learn, gain experience and exposure to the hospital environment

· Meet new people

· Be part of a team

· Simply want to help

Is volunteering at RRHS right for me?

There are many different roles across the hospitals! Volunteers help with patient flow in clinics, visit with inpatients, assist with meal tray delivery, act as liaisons between staff and families in waiting rooms, provide comfort measures for patients, run our Gift Shop and Coffee Shop, and assist patients and visitors with directions and more! There are also opportunities to provide strategic direction and governance leadership as a volunteer member on the Board of Directors.

What things should I consider before applying to volunteer position at RRHS?

· Is it the right time in my life to make a commitment to volunteering?

· Minimum 6-month commitment and/or a minimum of 60 hours of service (we have many volunteers who travel, go to cottages for the summer, are snow birds in the winter and we work with those schedules)

· Typically, one, 2–4-hour shift per month, but some contribute less and some more!

· Most programs run Monday – Friday between 8am and 4pm, with a few evening and weekend shifts

What is the process for applying to become a RRHS volunteer?

· Submit an application (which can be found on-line)

· Ensure 2 references are submitted

· Attend interview

· If offered a volunteer position at AHI or TDMH: submit original Police Record Check, fulfill mandatory health review and complete corporate and role-specific training
