Waitlist Focused Group Mentor

Volunteer Job Description
The SOAR Program provides group mentoring opportunities for youth on our waitlist while they await a 1:1 match. SOAR groups are organized by age—youth 12 and under, or youth 13+—and are led by caring volunteer mentors.
Mentors participate in pre-planned group activities designed to build connections, confidence, and skills. Activities may include:
- Recreational activities (dance, martial arts, horseback riding, hiking)
- Culinary experiences (cooking or baking together)
- Arts and cultural outings (crafts, painting, museum tours, improv comedy)
The program runs for 8–12 weeks, with groups meeting once a week in the evening for a couple of hours. Each session gives mentors and youth the chance to explore new experiences, develop communication skills, and foster positive developmental relationships in a fun and supportive setting.
Experience Required
Must be 18+
8–12 week program.
Weekly evening sessions (2+ hours each).
Transportation is required.
Able to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
Complete volunteer interview, intake, and training.
